XP Pro peer to peer networking

Joe

I had 4 computers networked together using Microsoft client and peer to
peer. 3 computer has Windows XP professional and the 4th one had Windows NT
4.0. It was all working fine until I replace the Windows NT computer with a
new computer with Windows XP Professioanl. I'll call the new computer "D".
Computer A,B and C still works fine together. Computer D works fine with B
and C. Computer D can see computer A in the workgroup but get "access
denied" when I try to get to computer A. Computer A cannot see computer D
at all. The network uses IP 169.254.x.x addresses. When computer D starts
up it get "Local Area Connection Limited or no connection." The adapter
used is SIS PCI Fast Ethernet adapter. The network is not connected to
internet. Therefore some of the older computer with Windows XP pro may not
be up to date. Can anyone help me with this problem.

Joe,

The "limited or no connection" message is not a problem, if you're intentionally
using 169.254.x.x addresses consistently. That's just Microsoft keeping you
informed.

If you're using XP Pro on your LAN, you need to have Simple / Classic File
Sharing, and Guest authentication, setup consistently. Read this article:

You need to check for a browser conflict - use "browstat status" per instruction
in this article:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/browstat-utility-from-microsoft.html>

And Joe, posting your email address openly will get you more unwanted email,
than wanted email. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself
a bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - read this article.
