Fixing Internet explorer 6

I have Windows XP Home Edition on my computer. I have
internet connection that is working. "ie" outlook express,
and MSN Messenger. Only my Internet Explorer will not
work. It doesn't matter what address I type in the address
window it displays "page cannot be found". If I go to the
command prompt and ping different addresses I recieve the
required packet sent & recieved back.
Is there an easy solution to this problem.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
