Fixed columns or Rows

I came across a spreadsheet where column A and Row 1 were fixed and allowed the rest of columns and rows to still sroll. How was this done?

Select cell B2 then choose Window/Freeze Panes

Put the cell that you want in the top left corner (usually it's A1).

then select a different cell. everything above that cell and to the left will
be frozen.

Then Window|Freeze Panes

(and that's where you'd unfreeze them, too.)
