I think your problem might be your Windows Registry.
It may be full of invalid entries and errors. The solution for windows
crashes is to simply clean your registry from those invalid entries
and errors.
You can read reviews on registry cleaners at http://TopRegistryCleanersCenter.com

I change anywhere on my computer???
I go in and change anything on the "internet options" tabs and click "apply"
and "ok" and it just goes right back to what it was before I changed it???

I have no outside security programs on my computer at this time other then
the windows firewall which when I try to turn off it wan't stay off. I had
that Grisoft AVG free spyware/adware, etc. program that found two items that
it quarantined and about a hundre & two other items that were various adwares
& spywares? The screen came up and asked if I wanted to remove all these and
I said "yes" THEN all h broke loose! A message box came on saying are you
sure you want to do this cuz if you do your computer is going to crash.
(well, not exactly in those words but you get it, right?) So I panicked & hit
"NO" real quick but I guess not quick enough........................and you

I will let you know tomorrow what happens with the other suggestions you
gave me to try.
Thanks agin, and I am really sorry I have to keep asking you all for help.
Its just that I am not very computer literate and I am so frustrated. I run a
retail business online and everything I need is either on my Outlook Express
or my Word Perfect 11 and neither will open!!! @#$$@%#@*&^%

Try the Home Page Lock and Unlock from here- line 63 1st column:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Bear in mind if you have a protection/security software that configured or
by default set to block any changes or alert you to take action, try to
reconfigure it to allow you to change the Home page.
Did you clicked on Apply then [OK] when you tried the URL for your new Home
page?.

Ton the updates issue:

Please copy and paste the following into a Notepad and Save it as Reg.bat on
your Desktop then double click the Reg.bat to execute it and click "YES" to
register the Required DLLs for the windows updates engine.

regsvr32 Msxml.dll
regsvr32 Msxml2.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 cryptsvc.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv
Reboot the machine and see if you will be able to get and install any

Thank you everyone who answered my post especially nass. I still have not
fixed my problem though. I am unable to install or download anything and the
wierdest thing is that the "comcast" home page will not go away. I try to go
to tools and change back to "Dell myway" home page but nothing will save that
I change anywhere on my computer???
I go in and change anything on the "internet options" tabs and click "apply"
and "ok" and it just goes right back to what it was before I changed it???
I want to cry!

After making sure the machine clean from malware and viruses you can search
your machine for Rundl32.exe you will find it in here:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
And here:
C:\WINDOWS\system32
Copy it from the First location to the second one and Reboot your machine.
If that didn't help Copy it from the XP CD ( Installation media) or from the
Recovery Partition on your System usually D:\.

Read here and you can download it from here, please scan it for Viruses
before installing it or copy it to the location C:\Windows\System32:

Hi Nass & everyone,
Yes I did click on "apply" then [OK] when trying to set my home page. I can
save absolutely NOTHING on my computer no matter where or what it is, i.e. my
print preferences won't save or when I am in internet options and under
"privacy" I overwrite the cookies & that does not save after I click apply &
OK and under the "advanced" tab its the same problem, I unchecked "enable
third party ..........." clicked "apply" & [ok] went back in and it is
checked again???
Anyway, I followed your instructions for "Reg.bat" and all files listed
succeded except for one & message I got was: "cryptsvc.dll failed - dll
register server entry point was not found - cannot be registered".
still cannot download or install anything! :(

Hi Patti,

Try to disable any security software while doing these steps (please Renable
them After finishing these steps!)

You have the Cryptographic services disabled or damaged, try to
repair/reinstall this service:
Open a run command and type in:
services.msc click [OK]
On the services control panel locate this service and make sure it
start Auto:

Cryptographic Services
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Right click the above services and select properties, on the
properties make
the changes to the start STATUS.
Close the services Control panel, Reboot your machine and start the
Update,
does it help?.
Or Open a run command and try to stop and Restart the crypto service
by
typing in:
net stop cryptsvc click [OK]
net start cryptsvc click [OK]
Reboot your machine and try the updates site.
If all fail try this VBs script to start the Services:

Restore Cryptographic service - Cryptsvc:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cryptsvc.reg

Reboot and try the updates, does it help?

Run Disk CleanUp on your computer first, then try to run the Windows updates
page and select custom then uncheck the updates which keeping reinstalling
on your computer.
Then open the Windows Explorer and locate this path:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistributions\ Download or update and delete the
contents in the Right Pane/Window for these updates.

Reboot your computer and see if that will help.

If the above didn't help You may experiencing a profile corruption, try to
create a new profile (as
Admin) and copy the data from one of these profile to the new and test to see
if it will work.
If it did work then you know it is a profile corruption, after making sure
you copied all the Data from the Old Profile to the new one, you can safely
delete the old corrupted one, the same with other account.
