Fix a "device: that is stuck listed as #xx in Device Manager

I somehow have my "Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network
Adapter" permenately stuck listed with a "#3" in Device Manager. It
is the only adapter and there is none other entry listed or "hidden."

Can this be reset??
 
Have you tried deleting it and reinstalling? It sounds like there were
two previous instances that have subsequently been removed.

Well I suppose if it is really bothering you, then you could search
through the Registry for " #3" and edit all the Friendly Names for that
instance. Remember, "If you break it, you own both pieces!"
