First tree Dead

we have 3 active directory Win 2000 servers. The First one
has died! Can We safely remove\delete it from active
directory? What may happen? TIA Hank b

First thing first. Is this the root of a forest? Assuming that these
domains aren't further down in a tree than this domain, the only thing you
need to be careful of is that you've seized all of the FSMO roles back (aka
Schema master, etc.) if it holds any forest-wide ones.
