First edition XP Pro Upgrade CD - will it upgrade XP Home?

I have an original, unused XP Pro upgrade package from
when XP was first released. It says on the packaging
that it can be used to upgrade Win 98, Win 98se, Win ME,
NT4 or Win2K. I have a system that has XP Home and I
know Home can be upgraded to Pro, but will this initial
release of XP Pro upgrade work to upgrade Home or do I
need a newer version of XP Pro upgrade that will
recognize XP Home as an eligible system for upgrading?

Also, I know I can just put the disk in and try it and it
will tell me if there is an eligible OS found, but the
computer is not on site and it needs to be done tonight
after Best Buy and Comp USA will be closed.

TIA,

Joel

Greetings --

The retail WinXP Pro Upgrade works on WinXP Home. (Apparently, the
Microsoft executive who approved the packaging design for the WinXP
Pro Upgrade box didn't consider the possibility that some peoples'
requirements could change after purchasing WinXP Home, or that some
people might not do the necessary research to make sure that they
bought the correct version of WinXP the first time.)

Of course, there are no iron-clad, 100% guarantees when it comes
to updating any kind of computer software, much less an operating
system. WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing
operating system while simultaneously preserving your data and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things can
go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all
important to you, back it up before proceeding.
