Firewire drives

Peter

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop (PCG-GRX516MD) running Windows
XP SP1.

Using the s400 iLink (firewire 400) port I am trying to
access a Lacie external hardrive.

The disk is being recognised but is inaccessible. Device
manager displays a code 10 "The device failed to start"
message.

The disk works just fine when connected via USB and works
just fine when connected to an Apple MAC via firwire.

Any body got any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Peter

See if you can download updated drivers from Sony for the firewire
port. Generally, both USB 2.0 and Firewire drivers are included in
the same download. XP SP-1 or 1a should easily handle USB 2.0 and
Firewire (IEEE 1394) devices without additional drivers. But since
laptops are generally very proprietary in their hardware makeup, it
might be that you need driver support from Sony.
