I'm having all sorts of problems with Firewire not working with
camcorders.
I have checked 5 (yes 5!) camcorders, with 5 PC's, 6 firewire cables.
On ALL of the systems (all running XP) none of them can see the
camcorder.

One of the systems had JUST XP - and nothing else installed.
This worked fine. BUT then one day, just flipping stopped!
The other systems had the latest XP with all service packas and other
updates.

I have managed to get the camcorders working on laptops.

The ONLY conclusion I have is that XP is causing a problem somehow.

I have read on the internet countless stories about Firewire not
working with camcorders.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
(Despite all my researching and reading, I haven't found a solution as
yet.)

ANY ANY ANY help and feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have people bring in Cam Corders with Firewire all the time, at least
6 different brands with it, and the Windows XP SP2 machine has never had
a problem pulling anything as long as using the proper firewire cable.

You do know that there are different firewire cables, number of pins
will very.
