To a certain point, yes! The first unit that could be "cracked" would be
the hardware firewall unit. So your personal data is somewhat more
protected.
However, a hardware firewalls are more expressive and are not like the
gateway routers seen on the market. The gateway routers are useful and help
to share the broadband access.
