I have just bought a new computer with XP Pro. Previously I had Windows 98/Me.
I have Windows Firewall but I have a Virus checker from the czech republic
called Avast!. Can I hold two umbrellas without getting soaked? In other
words do I need to turn the firewall part of Avast! off?

Antivirus is not a firewall, a firewall is not antivirus.

If you have a firewall in avast, then you might want to see what Avast
states for Windows XP.

If you have a NAT Router you would be in a lot better security position
than just using a client based firewall application alone.
