Firewalls, etc....

This may not be the right forum for this but responses to my question about
files was so helpful thought I would take a chance. I loaded Norton Internet
Security 2005 on a friends computer and all works fine except you cannot
access the internet unless the FIREWALL is disabled. I went through the full
Norton solution list to this problem including UNINSTALLING and reinstalling
and still the same. Are there suggestions on this forum that may help?
Friend uses XP, etc... Thanks ... Wes

There are more complaints that compliments for NIS. Many internet
related issues can be traced back to too much interference from the program.

Forget Norton. Use the WinXP firewall or some other free one.
Similarly, for an anti-virus us a free one like AVG (www.grisift.com) rather
than Norton. Ever since Symantec issued it's first update after buying it
from Peter Norton it has been a problem.

Common complaint. Fix is to NOT use NIS.

Don't know how different NIS 2005 is from other versions, but I'm using 2003
NIS, NAV & NSW with XP Pro SP2 (have XP Firewall disabled) and no
problems accessing internet or any other puter problems. Just my
experience.

My brother had a similar problem on his pc. One thought. Open up the
firewall, configure, look at the programs it monitors. Find internet
explorer and make sure it's on automatic or permit all. If it's set to block
all you can't get on the web through internet explorer.
