Can anyone recommend a good firewall that I can install on an old P3? I
want to convert this old PC into a hardware firewall. Someone told me about
IP Cop, but I am not quite sure.
Any ideas?

This doesn't make sense. If you put a good software firewall package like
Zone Alarm in this old PC, it's still a software firewall. Spend $20 and
get a router.

What are you going to do, gut the case? You may want to review what a
hardware firewall is.

A hardware firewall is merely a physical device that is used solely for the
purpose of a firewall. The device is a hardware device with software
installed.
I had thought about using IP Cop (http://ipcop.org/), but was looking for a
possible alternate option. Some flavor of Linux might be the option.

With IP Cop, Linux IS the option. What does it matter as far as
operating system if the firewall software is the only thing running?
