in trying to enable the firewall i receive an error
message the dependency service or group failed to start.
any suggestions?

I checked the dependencies on my system and here is what I
found. First, to manage services right click on my
computer, choose manage. In the computer management window
that appears expand services and applications, click on
services and all the system services will show up in the
window pane. According to my system, Internet Connection
Firewall is dependent on the following services so check to
see if each is running, if not, start them and set them to
start automatically. Here they are:

Application Layer Gateway Service
Remote Procedure Call
Network Location Awareness (NLA)
Remote Access Connection Manager

See if that resolves the problem. Also, you can check
dependings by double clicking on a service and selecting
the dependencies tab.
