Firewall removal

How can I check and possibly remove firewall so as to
enable me to download some files from the net

Depends on your firewall. Also, you don't need to disable a firewall to
download files - nor should you disable it, even for a moment.

This should not be necessary nor should you realy do it as it renders your
computer vulnerable to attack.
Having said that it depends on the device in question but I would not
recommend you do it.
