Firewall on Internet connection

When I go to Control Panel=> Network Connections, I see 2 entries:

Local Area Connection, which is Windows firewalled and

Internet Connection gateway, which is not.

How do I firewall that connection? If I disable it, I can't get to the web.
But there is no facility to enable a firewall, the settings button brings up
another form, for services (or something like that) and not the one that
comes up for the local connection.

I have a Linksys Router through which my two wired and one wireless PCs are
routed. Thanks.

Hi
If you have a Broadband connection (DSL or Cable) and it is connected via
Network card the Modem (or to a Router), the Firewall take care of business
through the Local Area Connection leave the Gateway connection as is.

The "Internet Connection gateway" entry is probably the router, which is seen
because you are running SSDP on your computer, and it is "discovering" the
router. A NAT router protects itself, you don't apply a firewall to it. And,
as you have seen, disabling it is not a good idea.
