Hi, folks

We have a firewall corruption that will not reset: when going into
administrative tools>services>

Security accounts service is started
Security centre will not start [I've tried several times]?
Server started sussessfully

Any suggestions on a fix or anywhere that I can reinstall XP SP2 Firewall
application?
Thanks

had that last year

I would suggest hunting down

sygate free at majorgeeks.com

or comodo

both good freeware firewalls

Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look at those.
Ms must have something out there locally to reinstall XP firewall?

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type: SFC /SCANNOW

nothing I found then or now.....sometimes with MS you have to sideswipe
rather than hit it head on :)

Thank you for the Reply, Mark; however, I have tried this as well to no avail.

If SFC failed to repair the firewall utility, there is something blocking it
from running.

Consider removing SP2, and reinstalling it. (add/remove app)

Another approach is :

the netsh command in SP2 can rebuild the Winsock catalog. Open the command
prompt and type: netsh winsock reset catalog then press ENTER.

Have tried turning off your Windows Firewall? AntiV and Windows Firewall
don't always go hand and hand. It's also hard to allow Exceptions in Windows
Firewall when it doesn't show.

hi D-man i have two possible solutions for you
my first option is:
- Type firewall.cpl in Start, Run dialog.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click the Restore Defaults button.
- Click Yes to continue when you see this dialog
my second option is the netsh command
start/run
-type cmd and press enter
type netsh press enter
type firewall press enter
type reset and press enter
