Firewall controlled by group policy

I need to shut off the firewall to install some software. I am locked out as
there is something called a group policy that is in effect. How do I turn
this OFF? This is my home machine and is not networked. I am running
windown XP professional.

Thank you.

Log in as the administrator. That should sort it.

Let me preface by saying this is my opinion.
This is at your own risk / discretion.
Do NOT do this if you connect to a work or otherwise administered
network.

Log in as the administrator.
The Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Group Policy snap-in is used to
set local group policy.
To start it, select "Start", "Run", and type "gpedit.msc".
In the console tree of the Group Policy Object Editor, open Computer
Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, Network Connections,
and then Windows Firewall
Double-click each setting listed, click Not Configured, and then click
OK.

Technobard and Maincat,
Thanks for the responses. What ended up being the problem was my Microsoft
One Care. Once I deleted this service, my computer began working normally.
