Firewall controlled by group policy

I cannot turn on windows firewall because it states mesage: for your
security, some settings are controlled by group policy. all options are
greyed out. searching microsoft poor support they say this setting is if i
have windows small busines server 2003. I don't have this running on my
machine! help, i need to turn firewall on but cant!

Go to Start, Run and enter services.msc
In the right pane look for Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing
Double-click and set the service to Automatic
Start the service
OK

It is already set to automatic. Still cant enable windows firewall!

Did you have Windows One Care installed? It transfers control of the
firewall over to group policy. Try Start> Run: gpedit.msc
You should see a branch that is specifically for the firewall.

Also, OneCare support should have some information on how to revert control
of the firewall back to the general user interface (away from gpedit.msc).

Yes i have one care installed. Gues i should delete it because I'm not going

Ok. That's what moved the control of the firewall over. Again, suggest
checking in with OneCare support.

I don't know if they incorporated reverting firewall control to previous
state into OneCare's uninstall or not. Haven't used it since it was in beta
where extra steps were needed. If I remember correctly, the extra steps
were easier to do while OneCare was still installed. If that's still the
case, it would be better to exactly what's required before you make any
changes.
