What Do you recommend for Fire Wall and Antivirus protection? Also what do
you use for protection??
I use NAV but have problems with it not able to delete Adware, Fire Wall is
complex and not easy to configure for armatures. I try my best but still get
clobbered.

I like F-Prot AV. The interface is good, the price is right $30, and if
you have to email tech support, a real live person answers!!!
http://www.f-prot.com/

For firewall protection, I like ZoneAlarm, free version. It's not hard
to learn it if you just spend a little time clicking on the tabs in the
control center. Also, it's nice knowing which programs are trying to
phone home or contact the internet.

norton internet security 2004 has a small scan for adwares.
i have never found it a problem to configure as it does it
mostly during setup.

also try mozilla.org 'firefox browser' as it does not get
hijacked and is more secure than internet exploder.

spybot from safer-networking.org is a good guard for
finding spyware/ adware and has a immunize feture and block
bad web pages.

and don't click on popups that say 'your system clock is
not right'or 'you are broadcasting your ip address, click
now to stop it'.. these are from 'gator' ,a bad ,bad,
scumbag company.

Greetings --

You'll get nearly as many differing opinions as you will
responses.

I used, and recommended, Norton Antivirus and then Norton Internet
Security, for many years, on Win98, WinNT, Win2K, and WinXP, all
without any significant problems. I had used McAfee prior to that.
But it's been several years since I've been tempted to try McAfee
products. Their quality seemed to take a steep nose-dive after they
were acquired by Network Associates.

However, when my subscription to Symantec's updates for Norton
Internet Security 2002 came up for renewal (at a cost substantially
higher than the preceding year's subscription), I decided to try less
expensive solutions. I downloaded and installed the free version of
GriSoft's AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php ) and the
free version of Sygate's Personal Firewall
(http://smb.sygate.com/free/default.php ). Both have proven to be
easily installed, easy to use, and quite effective. Additionally, I
was pleasantly surprised to see a small but very noticeable
improvement in my PC's performance, once I'd replaced the Symantec
product.

Hi,

I use, and recommend, AVG (www.grisoft.com) and Kaspersky
(www.kaspersky.com) for AV, and give strong preference to E-trust (AV and
firewall combo from www.my-etrust.com). I use all or a combination of these
on my personal systems. The native firewall is also fine, though not as
easily configurable, for blocking incoming traffic.

I used to use Norton but was upset with the system resources it was using
and the fact it could not detect spam. I got PC-cillin and I like it alot
it has a smaller footprint and detects spam, spyware, is a good firewall and
antivirus in one. It automatically updates itself as well.

personally I prefer FREE items what work with no interference with the OS.
AVG virus protection FREE version from www.grisoft.com
and outpost FREE firewall, from www.agnitum.com, many extra features, including blocking OE from sending without approval. other free firewall do not do this.

I dislike Norton products all round. The AV I currently use is
eTrust, which is good, and which you can currently get as a free trial
of their complete EZArmor package, which includes the firewall engine of
Zone Alarm, and makes a good comprehensive solution. At
www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/
