Whenever I start Firehand Ember Free, I get an outgoing
connection alert from my firewall. I don't see an outgoing IP
address, just my local proxy address 127.0.0.1. Needless to
say, I say deny.

Check to see if you have auto update enabled.

I can't find a that setting. Where is it?

I don't use your program (don't even know what it is for). However, many
people who have reported "suspicious" phone home behaviour have
discovered that the application was merely looking for a newer version
of itself. Several programs come with auto-updates enabled. Try looking
under an options or tools menu. Also check your startup programs to see
if there is an entry there that can be disabled. If this doesn't work,
you could send an email to the Firehand Ember Free's author.

It may also be a good idea to scan your computer with Ad-Aware and
Spybot Search & Destroy.
