Firefox Update causing Problems

Hello - Last week, Firefox did an automatic update and installed
itself. Since then I have found a couple of problems, such as - My
anti virus program which used to update and install itself, now insists
on having the computer turned off before the update can be finished.
When I do this and turn the computer back on again, I still get a
message telling me to turn off the computer. On some sites I visit,
one can click on a page section to bring up a new window. This does not
work any longer either. The only way I have been overcoming these and
other hassles, is by switching between IE and Firefox, which is pretty
stupid. Has anybody any idea of why this could be happening, and how to
turn off the overprotective blocks that have obviously been added? I
have not made any changes to any settings by the way. Thanks. PS Why
fix things when they ain't broken?? I was happy with the program
before they changed it :-)

Hi there Susan,

I don't claim to be a Firefox pro, but then again...we're on an MS Site. ;-)

The easy path of course is the Microsoft Path! If you want the features and
functionality similar to that of the Firefox Web Browser, check out the new
Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx . It's very much worth it!

On the Firefox note, I find that when I run into those kinds of bugs,
uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox seems to do the trick.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,

~Will

Maybe you could tell us a little more about your software? How about
which version you are running of FireFox, what AV and Version of AV you
are running? How about if you are running some personal firewall program
also?

When I moved from 1.5.01 to 1.5.03 I didn't notice ANY difference in the
way pages work.

It seems they released this 1.5.03 update to FIX something, try reading
here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/releases/1.5.0.3.html

Maybe you should start by resetting all of your options to their
default?

Maybe you should install a quality AV scanner and run a manual scanner
in case your computer is compromised and causing your problem?

"Why fix a program when it was not broken?"
It was updated as there was a vunrability in firefox. As a user of
firefox myself, you sadi clicking on a blanck page opens up a new
window. I have never had that. That sounds like an extension. In which
it might not be suitable for the new version.

And about restarting, when you get the reminder just click restart now.
Cant give much more help unless you list your firefox plugins and the
support urls and the name of your antivirus for a start.
