Firefox question

Michael Laplante

I used to view the vids at Metacafe.com daily, but a few days ago Firefox
stopped working on that site. What happens is that the page with the video
opens, the status bar indicates 'Done', everything else (text, images, etc)
is there but where the video player would normally be it is blank.

I upgraded from v1.06 to the latest release and that didn't cure the problem
either. Curiously, if I used Portable Firefox, I have no problems, nor is
there any problems viewing the pages in IE. I've looked over all the
settings under the Tools | Options and nothing looks amiss there.

Any FF experts here who could guess what's happening? I don't know if this
is related by I installed VideoLan a few days ago and was wondering if
somehow that had an effect.

Suggest you try news.mozilla.com newsgroup and then mozilla.support.firefox
or mozilla.support.thunderbird. More support there.

I dont recomend mozilla.support.firefox at all!
Its dominated by netcops who like seeing posts that they agree with only!

I have the worst impression of that one...

Translation: Kenny was asked not to top-post and he refused, then
found that he couldn't get any more good answers there.

Your translation is correct.
They wanted to force me to bottom post, and if I didn't comply they would
give me a hard time
or even refuse to answer me. They also stated that it was a private
newsgroup and
that they were indeed netcops.
Also they had no good knowledge or did not want to offer the information
about firefox.

I found the solution myself as usual. Since in no way did I want to follow
their absurd
rules I left and wont go back... but I understood the mentality of those
people in there.

You're talking about the Netscape server, not the Mozilla one. But
your insistence on rudeness would mean you'd get no solutions on the
Mozilla server either.

information about firefox.

They know plenty, just didn't want to help you with the info. This
happens to you a lot on Usenet as well, including in this group.
I found the solution myself as usual.

Sure, it's not as though people can stop you from finding information;
all we can do is not answer your questions and point out why you can't
get good help, so that others won't adopt your tactics.

Geeeshhhh....

can you please leave me alone?

Sure. All you have to do to be left alone is quit posting
misinformation and quit top-posting. The former will be more
effective, as I rarely go out of my way to talk about top-posting;
I only brought it up in this thread because it's relevant to the
misinformation you posted.

Yep. now everyone here knows that he would rather be disagreeable than
cooperative. A good reason for people here not to give him any help.

Yep, going out of one's way to NOT work with others is a pretty good
way to get ignored. At least other posters here can learn from his
arrogance.

No problem with Firefox 1.5.0.2, so it must be something else on your
computer.

Problem solved. Upgrade and re-installs didn't work. I then deleted the
'Application Data' folder and re-installed -- that did the trick.

If you really deleted the appdata folder, you may have lost your data
for many programs, not just Firefox. Even deleting just the Firefox
profile is overkill, as you lose bookmarks &c. doing that.

The smiley doesn't make that any less inane.

No, just deleted the FF folder after first backing up important sub-folders
such as my Scrapbook.

Re: top vs bottom posting -- Ann Landers once wrote that of all the letters
she received she was amazed to find that the issue that raised the most ire
in her readers was which way toilet paper should be installed, i.e. with the
fresh stuff coming off the top or off the bottom.

Little people are consumed by little issues. Personally, unless the original
message is long or convoluted, I could care less which way people post and I
wouldn't ignore someone who needed help because they top posted.

Thanks for the assist. . .
