Is it possible to get Firefox 1.5 to launch in a new process when opening
multiple windows like IE6 does, so that downloads can be made in different
folders from each window and also in case one window crashes it doesn't
bring the others down, this is the only thing that puts me off using it.

New windows? Or new tabs in one window? FF can do either one.

I know it can do both but when you launch a new window it is not a seperate
process so if you save from the second window the file is saved to the place
selected in the first window, in ie you can save to different locations in
different windows because they launch as independant programs.

Only one FF process at a time. More than that would hose the profile.

You can set FF to ask for a destination every download. Or use a
download manager.
