I have my cookies set to expire whenever Firefox is closed, but I'd like
to be able to keep some permanent cookies. Is there a way to do that, or
an extension that will let me do that? I had no luck searching
mozilla.org for that.

Chak;

I run Mozilla 1.7.7 but the process should be similar...

- click on edit
- click on preferences
- under "Privacy & Security," click on Cookies
- click on "Cookie Manager"
- click on the tab marked "Cookie sites"

You should be able to indicate which cookie "manufacturers" can leave
cookies on your system.

Try: http://cookieculler.mozdev.org/ffaq.html

"CookieCuller copies the Cookie Manager dialog and adds a simple protection
system to it. Protecting a cookie will prevent you from accidently deleting
it. And clicking the Remove All button will only delete unprotected
cookies."

Works for me!

Perfect! That was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

Can't you just set certain sites' cookies to be allowed? This works
for me: http://www.2and2.net/Uploads/Images/j44xm_firefox-cookies.png.

I think whether a site is allowed to set cookies is indepdendent from
whether firefox empties them on shutdown.

Exactly. I want to delete all cookies when I close Firefox, but keep
just a few protected ones.

While CookieCuller looked like just what I need, it isn't working for me.

Did you miss the option in CookieCuller to delete all unprotected cookies
on startup, or is something else stopping you?

I sure did. Now it's working fine. I had been using the Firefox option
to delete cookies when Firefox closed, and I was getting messed up.
Thanks.

Getting messed up eh? What did I tell you about eating cookies in bed?

Glad to help :-)

My settings are to allow session cookies, and I have specific sites set to
"Allow." The allowed sites' cookies are permanent without need of an
extension.

Session cookies will automatically be removed when the browser is shut
down. The other firefox setting refers to all other cookies.

I guess I just misunderstood the original question, so never mind me.
Thanks.
