"Breaking extensions" has NOTHING to do with Firefox. It's almost always
caused by the extension writer who specifies the current version of FF as
"last known good version." Savvy extension writers have learned to get
around that by specifying "Firefox 1.5+" which causes the extension to keep
working in subsequent upgrades. Unfortunately, not all of them have learned
this.

The MR Tech Local Install extension will allow you to get around this, and
also makes extension installation a breeze.

Thank you for your reply.

I have sent your suggestion to Roboform's tech-support department.

Better "safe" than sorry (imho; ymmv).
Sure.

Or to put this another way, if 1.5.0.2 is available on various &
sundry sites, why is it not advertised on & at 'Mozilla'?

It's available from mozilla.com, not "various & sundry sites".
Something is going on....

Yes, the release of a new version of Firefox.

Now, yes. Not, however, when I first began bleating & squealing.

No. The OP in this thread pointed to mozilla.org, not "various &
sundry sites", and what was going on the entire time was the release of
a new version of Firefox.
One should realize that, in 5 minutes or less, certain things (such as
the Official website) may change _completely_.

Perhaps one should wait a while before starting the bleating &
squealing.

You are equal with "Jondy", when it comes to thick-headedness.

Someone came in(to) here, saying 1.5.0.2 had been released, and showing an
apparently valid url (albeit of the http/ftp variety). So, to confirm same, I
browsed over within Mozilla.com (base, and the particular Firefox page), &
checked the link, to Newest-version. Nope; 1.5.0.1. Browsed over to
Majorgeeks.com; same thing (advert for 1.5.0.2, but actually serving 1.5.0.1).
Checked back (and refreshed) Mozilla.com; nothing new. Checked Filehippo.com;
1.5.0.1.

And so the checking went, on & on & on, until someone (you?) came along and
announced that Mozilla.com had *finally* put the right & proper link up.

Mozilla.com, Mozilla.org; in essence the same end result. On (the) "official"
page, 1.5.0.1 was _not_yet_ shown, link-wise. What portion of that do you still
fail in comprehending?

Yep; this is what happens when I get pi**ed. Re "official", etc., make the
entry 1.5.0.2, *not* 1.5.0.1.

No idea what you're talking about.
Someone came in(to) here, saying 1.5.0.2 had been released, and

A valid http URL for the Firefox 1.5.0.2 release directory, yes.
So, to confirm same, I browsed over within Mozilla.com (base, and
the particular Firefox page), & checked the link, to
Newest-version. Nope; 1.5.0.1. Browsed over to Majorgeeks.com;

Checking third party sites is a waste of your time if your concern is
to determine whether or not the Mozilla folks are releasing a new
version.
And so the checking went, on & on & on,

I've got no problem with your checking on & on & on, just with your
premature bleating. I've suggested you wait longer before bleating, so
that I (or someone else) doesn't need to correct the misinformation you
post; it would be great if you'd consider the suggestion rather than
just label me thickheaded.

Correcting my type: Under IE?

Please note that I never said that Firefox extensions work in IE.

My previous post (sniped by you) said
"This in my opinion is Firefox's one big annoyance. I appreciate the
frequent updates to make it more stable and secure, however it is
irritating that my Roboform Toolbar ends up broken for a few days every
single time.

Internet Explorer patches have never caused this type of problem. Sadly
this is the one area where Microsoft's browser is superior to Mozilla's."

My point is that I have never had an Internet Explorer add-on, such as
my Roboform Toolbar for IE cease working simply because IE was patched.

Firefox is my default browser. I prefer it over every other browser I
have tried. I am just annoyed that every time it is updated, my most
necessary extension (Roboform) gets broken. After every update there are
the inevitable posts in this group about broken favorite extensions.
There must be a better way to update the browser that will allow all
extensions to be preserved.

I doubt that this will ever happen, due to the fact that FF and its
extensions are developed separately and usually by different people. The
only cure would be if they started making FF contain all the (what they
call) bloat that was in Moz, and stopped allowing extensions.

I recently took a look at a couple of extensions that allow you to
conveniently disable/enable javascript, Java and flash. I thought they
took up too much screen space, and I also think having convenient
disable/enable of these things is a good thing from a security POV.
Therefore, IMO, these things should be incorporated in FF but without
the wasted screen space. There's plenty of room for the check boxes.
FF wastes some upper screen space as it is. So in in this case I think
the additional code would not be useless bloat, and well worth it.

I guess you already tried that but just to be sure : most of the
menu bars added by extensions are fully integrable in FF UI. For
example, two one-full-line menu bars can easily be put side by side
with a "click right > personnalize" on the top menu bar and
therefore consume much less vertical space.

No, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. However, it sounds from
what you're saying that a additional bar is required for the
extensions, and that's really what I object to. If the options were in
FF it seems to me that upper wasted screen space could be put to
good use.

I managed, using Customize and drag 'n drop to get NOScript extension
icon up in the top bar next to help ... and to not have it put a
yellow bar anywhere. So I'm happy that I've been able to use the main
extension I wanted without the extra toolbar. But I'm not happy that
I can't yet get rid of the fourth bar down from the top. It's
useless...complelely blank and just taking up screen space.

So far so good. Concerning the 'blank' toolbar issue, have you well
checked that in the general menu of FF : "view > toolbars >
the_given_toolbar" was unchecked ?

If this is done, may you are facing the problem evoked on the first
link to mozillazine's form I pointed at before and which itself

I'm not having any problem with deleting the bookmarks toolbar.
I just didn't know it could be done. So thanks again. IMO, that
makes for a much nicer uncluttered look.

Guess what? No one really cares about your opinion, least of all
the Firefox developers.

Get over yourself.
