MS AntiSpyware prevents FireFox from automatically checking
IMAP folders other than the inbox. After removing MS
AntiSpyware, Firefox works fine again.

I did notice when I un-installed AntiSpyware it told me I
needed to close Firefox down before continuing.

Doh! I most certainly do mean Thunderbird. If an
admin/moderator is around, please edit the topic title. Thanks!

Thanks, I will have to check that one out. I have Thunderbird but haven't
used it yet. It would be the first new bug I've seen in a while here!

I posted via the MS web site instead of a NNTP client so
I'm unable to cancel.

Also, I guess I should have mentioned my OS is XP Pro (SP2).

I can't fix it, but I believe it will get read and the information collated
in any case.

I installed Thunderbird after MSAS and do not have a problem on my WXP SP2
machine. Maybe a reinstall will correct the problem.

The problem may be specific to IMAP usage. For example, I believe more than
one Outlook Express user has reported an issue with using the Hotmail
facility in that program, which is HTML based.

I should have been very specific:

I installed Thunderbird, setup an IMAP account and proceeded to download
8,349 messages from my server. I checked it thereafter for a few days and
still no problem.

Ahh - thanks! One possibility for this is that these issues (the failures
with Outlook Express/Hotmail, and with Thunderbird/Imap) are simply an
evidence, on a particular machine, of a performance issue which some others
have stated shows for them as the Internet connection dropping out (even
though it is always on, and provided by a router!

Your evidence perhaps points in that direction--or at least away from a
direct compatibility issue with the apps.

Do you have T-Bird checking folders other than the inbox?

The tools/account preferences setting for checking for new
mail only checks the inbox. If you are subscribed to more
folder or create your own folders then you must right-click
each folder, select "properties", then check off the box
that says "check for new mail".

I had no usability issues with T-Bird, only that it would
not notify me of new mail in any folder other than the inbox.

I just realized that one of my work email providers has IMAP capabilities,
so I could actually test this myself. (This is one of about 6 such things I
am vaguely remembering promising myself!)--I'll try.
