Hi.

Every time I boot up (XP), I get a message that Firedaemon.exe has
encountered a problem. This program was installed and left on my system by a
virus (that was cleaned up).

The program itself doesn't seem to exist anymore, but there are 26
references to it in my system registry.

Is it safe to just go ahead and delete all of these?

I already deleted a couple, but the third one gave me the message "Unable to
delete all specified values."

You must still have FireDaemon.EXE or it would not be having a problem.

Is firedaemon.exe in C:\WINDOWS\system32?
c:\winnt\config\dll\FireDaemon.EXE ??

firedaemon - firedaemon.exe - Process Information
Process File: firedaemon or firedaemon.exe
Process Name: Firedaemon

Description:
firedaemon.exe is an application running in the background allowing a user
to install and run applications as a Windows NT or Windows 2000 service.

Hi Wes.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I did find it - in C:\Windows\Temp.

Is it safe to just go ahead and delete it?

Yes. In fact you can delete anything in that folder. If something is in
use XP won't let you delete it. In that case you may have to reboot and try
to delete again.

Hi Wes.

That seemed to do the trick.

Thanks.

Much appreciated.
