After installing microsoft antispyware my fire wall was
disabled. when I try to enable it says gives a message
saying windows can't start windows firewall/internet
connection sharing (ICS).

Go to a command prompt and type:

netsh winsock reset <enter> (i.e. hit the enter key!)

You may need to reinstall some third-party programs which add themselves to
the networking stack.

thank you for the help i tried it and it worked and my
firewall is on now. can you please give me more
information about the networking stack. I noticed in my
connection that all the details that was writen below it
such as the device they use and if it's firewalled or not
is gone now after i did that.

I'm not sure what you are seeing. I did such a reset yesterday (by
accident--trying out the commands to check for parameters while posting!)
and it didn't have any effect I can spot now on the appearance of the
network connections.

I can't find a good clear article on the "winsock reset" parameter of the
netsh command, I'm afraid.

There is a somewhat similar operation which is the equivalent of
uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP. This is covered here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299357

You might be interested in reading this article, and perhaps the two linked
articles under References at the end, if you really want to get into details
about networking with XP and newer OS versions.

If the issue you are seeing isn't resolved, write back and give me
step-by-step instructions to get to the place you are looking at, and
describe what you used to see there, and what you see now?

what i meant is the things that are written below the
icon of the connection itself. Before I did the reset it
showed the device it uses for the connection stated if
it's firewalled or not (below the icon). After the reset
it doesn't show this.

Hmm - still not sure. If you right click in that window and choose Views,
and try alternative choices--does it show what you are looking for? In my
case I see icons, with names below them (either default names or ones I've
chosen) and the icon indicates whether the firewall is on or not.
