Finds New Hardware (Glidepoint/UltraNav) on every boot

My IBM Z61m PC "finds" new hardware every time I turn it on. It is always
the UltraNav pointing device. I believe it's a Synaptics product but it came
with the machine. It has the touchpad and the pointing device (it's a
laptop). Why doesn't that device stay installed? I have reinstalled the
driver many times. It also complains about the driver not being digitally
signed. I found a setting somewhere that said to install it anyway even
though it's not digitally signed. But it continues to ask that question.
Any ideas how to resolve this?

Thanks.

If it came with the machine , was it already installed or did you have
to start/install it ?

It came with the machine all set up and ready to go. I didn't have to do
anything. I'm thinking a virus or something affected it. But my scans are
clean. I've downloaded and installed the latest driver but it just doesn't
seem to 'stick'. The next time I boot the machine it says "Found New
Hardware" and asks to install it again.
