finding who logged into my computer

In Windows XP Home, is there any files I could find that would tell me if
someone has logged onto my computer, and at what time?
I'm thinking someone has gotten my password and logged into my user account
and done some snooping around.
I had heard that there are files I could look at that tell me who has logged
onto my computer.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

I'm not aware of any way of doing this (auditing logons) in a WinXP Home
system. In Pro you add it to the policies, but these tools are not available
in WinXP Home.

Go to Start -> Run and enter eventvwr.msc in the Open box.
Click OK.
In the left hand column, right click on Security.
Click on the Filter tab.
You want to set the "Event Source" to Security and the Category
to "Logon/Logoff".
Click OK.
Now look in the right hand pane.
Click on the User column to group similar entries together.
Find your use account name.
You should now be able to examine the times your account was
logged on and off.

Good luck

You might want to double check on that one. Auditing of logon
and logoff events is enabled by default in Windows XP Home
Edition.

Thanks, I see that it is using your steps. I hadn't messed much with XP
Home, but I know in Pro you have to enable that in security policies first.

So why not just change your password? WinXP Home has no auditing
capabilities to speak of, and what good would they do if this mysterious
intruder is using your account? All you'll learn is that you used your
computer.
