Finding non-TT Fonts

I've configured PPT (2002 -- from Office XP) to embed fonts when saving. When I
save, it complains that I'm using two non-TT fonts, Helvetica and Helvetica
Italic. But when I try to replace the fonts via "Format>Replace Fonts...",
neither of these fonts is listed in the top drop-down box.

Any idea what is going on and how I can fix things so it saves cleanly with
embedded fonts?

Thanks,

Scott

As additional information on this problem, the Helvetica fonts PPT complains
about when saving with embedding are not listed in File>Properties>Contents.
Furthermore, the list of fonts there matches the list of fonts in the
"Format>Replace Fonts..." drop-down box for fonts to be replaced.

It seems that PPT knows that no Helvetica font is used in the document, yet
asking it to save with font embedding yields complaints about its inability to
embed those fonts!

Any suggestions on how to get PPT to stop complaining about this?

Thanks,

Scott

I wonder if the font is in a chart or other OLE object -- someplace PPT
would be detecting it, but wouldn't actually replace it, which may be why
it's not showing up when you go to Format|Replace Fonts.

If Helvetica is not a true-type font, PPT won't embed it. But it's odd that
it's not showing up in Format|Replace Fonts.

Echo's suggestion is a good one. Look for embedded OLE objects and other
graphics. Format, Replace fonts seems to see fonts in things like Excel sheets
(just ran a test to verify this in 2003) but it might not be able to access fonts
in other graphics; still, because the fonts are called for in the WMF picture
that represents the OLE content, it might be able to tell you that the font can't
be embedded.

Try (on a COPY of your presentation) ungrouping any graphics or other content
that has anything that might be Helvetica or Arial in it then try Replace Fonts
again.

Try Replace after each ungroup, in fact, and you'll learn which graphic had the
rogue font in it. If any.

I forgot to mention WMFs and EMFs. Thanks, Steve!

Also EPS files, although those are fairly unusual to find in PPT files. Org
Charts, too, if they were created in the old-style Org Chart 2.0 thingamajig
(as opposed to the new diagramming applet).

Grouped objects -- good idea.

Thanks to the above, I tracked the fonts down to diagrams imported from Word.
Converting them to MS Picture objects (whatever that means, but I'm sure it'll
become apparent at some point -- I'm new to Office) allowed Replace Fonts to
work on them.

At this point, PPT is complaining that I'm using the PS font ZapfDingbats
somewhere in the presentation. Almost certainly this is somewhere in the
graphics imported from Word, but I don't see anything in the imported graphics
that looks like it came from that font, and I've examined all the text in the
diagrams. Does anybody have suggestions on how I can track down the place(s)
where I'm using this font?

Thanks,

Scott

FWIW, it's a symbol font.

When in doubt, try replacing it with a font that's very distinctive.
Stencil or Arial Black or the like.
That should make it stand out a bit better.
