Finding Contacts

Using Outlook 2003, from my inbox, I search for a contact by right-clicking
and choosing look up contact and it cannot be found. I do not put any
contacts in the contacts folder but have created other folders for my
purposes to store my contacts. Is there any way to get this function to
work with other named folders besides Contacts. In other words, for
subfolders under contacts. Thank you.

Are those other subfolders enabled as address books?

I don't think so if I understand you but I am not sure. I can get to them
from the To field in the mail editor by clinking on it and selecting the
folder I desire.

Sounds like they are address books, then. You can verify by right-clicking
on a Contacts folder, choosing Properties, and then selecting the "Outlook
Address Book" tab. There should be a check in the "Show this folder and an
e-mail Address book" box.

Advanced Search will let you select what folders you will search.

I just tried this with a message I received and on which were named a couple
of people I know are in my Contacts folder. I saw the same thing you did
for all but one of the names. I was able to fix this by tying the E-mail
address on the Contact page to the Address Book by clicking the little
address book icon to the right of the E-mail address field on the Contact
record. This brought up the "Select Name" dialogue, which I then used to
find the specific Contact record. Selecting this record and clicking OK and
then saving the Contact allowed by "Look up Contact" menu item to work.

Yes, they display as address books. I guess advanced search is the only way
to do this but I wish it were on the right-click menu from the reading pane
window.

Thanks.

No, I think that feature only looks at the default Contacts folder.
