Find.exe And sort.exe keep reappearing after I delete them

Hello.

I have a problem that is a problem only because I'm using
the Emacs text editor (I won't go into the gory details).
The problem is that I have tried to delete two program
files, find.exe and sort.exe. Every time I delete one of
them, or rename it, it doesn't stay deleted. If I rename
it, I get a new re-renamed file, so that I end up with two
copies of the file, e.g. find.exe, and find1.exe. When I
delete the file, it just reappears - somehow undeleting
itself wthout any action on my part except hitting the
Refresh key.

Does anyone know why the operating system would do this? I
have Norton Anti-Virus installed on my system, and I
suspected it of doing something strange, but there is no
sign of Norton doing anything like restoring the deleted
file. So now I just wonder if anyone has seen this kind of
behavior before, and if so, is there anything I can do to
stop this from happening?

Thank you very much for your reply.

These files are probably both protected by Windows System File Protection.
If that's the case, removing them from system32 will cause them to be
restored from system32\dllcache. If you find copies in that folder,
you'll know for sure that's what's happening. If I recall correctly, the
restore is logged in the event log.

What are you trying to accomplish by removing them?

As Gary wrote, the system restores these files automatically.
If you really want to get rid of them, delete them from the
dllcache folder first.
