Final solution trying to open attachments in Windows Mail.

Send Microsoft an invoice for $500 for wasting your time with this piece of
crap. Many of you, or thousands have spent hours trying to fix this defect of
trying to open some attachments in Windows Mail. All the MBA grads at
Microsoft created this ingenious Windows Mail, they should be fired and
Microsoft should have the balls to send out a fix, instead of us searching
all the crevices of this pit. Otherwise, the place to complain is the
Wallstreet Journal and CNBC news, so the stock market can decide what to do
with this defect resulting in poor Vista sales from this product. When MSFT
stock drops and starts to lose money, then they will spend their own time
answering us and posting a fix.

Sounds like you would rather piss and moan than work at finding
a solution.
Sorry, I can't duplicate your issue because attachments open
fine for me in Windows Mail.

I think I'll send you an invoice for $500 for wasting my bandwidth :)

Gary, do I need to have Office 2000 installed to open a Word document? I had
that software on my old computer and attachments opened fine. Thanks for

In order to open a Word document, you will either need to
install Word (or Office), or else install the free Word Viewer
from Microsoft.

UPDATE SOLUTION - I installed Norton AntiVirus and now I can open Attachments
in Windows Vista Mail. Previously, I had to email messages to Yahoo and open
attachments that way as a work around. When I bought Vista Upgrade it came
with Norton AntiVirus but I did not install it because I was trying to solve
the Windows
Mail problem first before adding another software. Then I installed it
recently. Why doesn't Microfat come out and inform everyone that this
co-partnership with Norton AntiVirus provides the best solution. They
advertised that Vista was like a replacement to other Virus software and we
might save money not having to buy additional virus protection software. This
is all a scam to sell a new box of software called Vista wih a new screen
look.
They should be charged for this crime of wasting our time trying to correct
their defective software. Why did they create this new message board to hear
about our problems with their software. It is admission of guilt. We are
their slaves and guinea pigs with their new software and somebody should be
fired. They are getting free feedback from us.
Actually, Windows XP with Outlook Express is sufficient and I would
recommend anyone to stay with that system and use Norton System Works virus
software. I should have read CNET's review of Windows Vista before buying
into this software scam. It is working now after 40 hours of wasted time.

Also, if you are sending an attachment, like a Word Doc attachments and you
still have that file open, a message pops up that the attachment will be
sent. It doesn't explain to first close the open file that is a secret they
want us to figure out.

Most people find Norton to be a disasyer with Vista and expecially with
Windows Mail.

Okay Gary, i have never been able to open any attachments since I had Vista.
i will not moan, but rather ask your expert opinion !! microsoft said they
would help me , if i give them my my Visa card number !! So, since I am
retired, and not rich i am hoping Gary can help me for free . The message i
get when i try to open is "Adobe Reader could not open your file because is
is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (
for example, it was sent out as an e-mail attachment and wasn't correctly
decoded). like i said i nevRr had a problem opening these files from the
same person on xp. i have downloaded the newest version of Adobe reader 8.1
to no avail. HELP !!

Thanks Robert, I did what you said. i uninstalled my google toolbar, and
downloaded Adobe from the address you gave me. But still it won't open.
anyone else have any ideas out there ?

What is the file extension (the part of the file name starting with the last
period)? The Adobe Reader should open files with a .pdf extension,
but I don't know if it handles any other extensions.

Robert.. the file extension is .doc Any more ideas anyone or do i HAVE TO
PAY Microsoft to fix this? I resent having to pay to fix this. i had no
problem with XP . i had no choice in buying Vista. Dell had it installed

Can you save the PDF file to your Documents folder and open it from there?

except
for this problem....

Do you have Microsoft Word?

I doubt that Adobe Reader is the correct program to read .doc files, but
Microsoft Word probably is. If I remember correctly, you can download
a free program that can read them but not edit them. Also, if I remember
correctly, there's a newer program that can edit the newer version of
the files, .docx files.
