Filtering Out Certain Messages

In the ...Vista.General newsgroup a poster keeps posting off topic and it is getting a bit annoying.
I understand Microsoft is going to web based forums and probably don't care about this but it gets to be difficult
to navigate with all these off-topic posts. (Anyone who frequents ....Vista.General knows what I'm talking about.)

Don't get me wrong, at first I considered these posts a pleasant diversion but now they are getting annoying
'cause there are so many of them.

Is there a message rule I can create so I don't have to see these posts??
The Subject line is in upper case. I don't see a rule that seems to apply..
I'm sure someone has figured a filter for these posts.

Thanks,
James

You can use message rules but you have to find something consistent to
filter on.

Instead of a message rule you can use Blocked Senders. The latter works
only if the unwanted poster always posts with the same email address.

Note: I gave up following vista.general several years ago, because of the
crummy signal-to-noise ratio.

I thought of block sender but didn't use it for the reason you sepecified.
Deleting the posts will help to a point, the posts aren't too difficult to
see.
signal-to-noise i'm assuming means on topic posts to off topic posts.
There is a lot of garbage.

Thanks,
James

You're very welcome. Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet for eliminating
stuff you don't want.

Signal-to-noise ratio is terminology adopted from electronics engineering,
and in general just means the ratio of wanted to unwanted occurrences.

It's a shame some people can't appreciate the educational value of these NG,
discussion groups, and forums. I've notice there is quite a bit of
potty-mouth in the alt.windows7.general NG as well. Sadly, these same
persons occasionally offer true insight and direction - so you hate to block
their posts altogether. But for individuals who are looking for guidance -
some who may be minors - it is really a nuisance. Can't tell them to stop -
seems to just make it worse !!
