But if not using Exchange with its GAL, all you have are "personal"
distribution lists that you mention. If using SMTP, the distribution
list can't be used when sending RCPT-TO commands to the SMTP mail
server. So that list would have to get expanded. But that's for the
RCPT-TO commands, and the e-mail client might keep the distro list shown
in the To/Cc headers of the message it sends in the DATA command.
I'm not using Exchange, just SMTP. When I attempt to create a
distribution list (DL), the "Put this entry" option is forcibly enabled
and a contact-type folder is selected. I have 4 of them and each is
configured to be added to the Outlook Address Book container. I cannot
select the OAB container but have to select a contact-type folder (like
Contacts). So without Exchange, DLs have to go into contact-type
folders.
I haven't used DLs (I don't slam out the same e-mail to multiple
recipients). I'd have to create one and then use it in a new e-mail to
see if the received copy of that e-mail had the expanded list of
recipients in the To/Cc header or if the distro list was shown. From
what I see at
http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/dl.asp and from you
mentioned, that distro list will get expanded so the received copy of my
message would show individual addresses, not the DL.
