After downloading a norton remove file program, most of my files have become
unopenable and their icon is covered with the itune logo. Opening in safe
mode makes no difference, and I can't open system restrore either. Help!!

Try fixing .lnk and .exe associations here:

See if you can run my Remove-it software, it will remove that malware from
your system. Choose yes for all options when prompted. Download it here

I can't run either program - I get a message saying it's not a valid win32
program.

Can you download them to another machine, unzip them, and use a thumb
drive to run them on the infected machine? Also try running them in
Safe Mode. Try running your a/v software plus malwarebytes, and
superantispyware in Safe Mode too.

Using another computer, download the Avira AntiVir Rescue System from here
and burn it to a CD. Boot to that CD on the bad computer and scan your
computer.

As an addendum to that excellent advice, some malicious software
prevents access to security websites (such as
www.malwarebytes.org) - and also interferes with the security
software that you might use to clean the infection.

If that happens to you,
http://tech.amikelive.com/node-144/tdss-trojan-and-bediddle-adware-removal-guide
describes a way of overcoming malicious software, by disguising
the Malwarebytes removal program. Although the workaround is
designed to remove a specific infection, it may also be effective
against other infections with similar characteristics.

Thanks a million- using another computer and transferring to a thumb drive,
I was able to open up and get my exe and lnk extensions operable again, run
mbam and get
norton 360 working. I haven't done superspyware yet but plan too. Certainly
appreciate the help of everyone!

That's great news. But you should run a few utilities to search for
rootkits, or missed malware. So be sure to run SAS at least.
