files wont open, go to search instead

When I try to open files in my documents or anywhere on my computer, it does a search instead of opening the file. If I right click on a file and go to open it works, can someone help?

Doug's site, below. Click on XP-FIXES. Righthand column...
"Search opens when folder ... "

This happens to folders, directories and not for files.

Click [Start] [Run] and type "REGSVR32 /i SHELL32"
