files with no format!?

I have some music that is downloaded and is in "My
Music", they are just just called "file" with no
description such as ,.mp3 or .asf. They play fine when
opened in windows media player but I cannot get them to
actually go into the media library.

The library will wholeheartedly reject bogus files like that. Any valid
file in Windows basically requires a valid and correct file extension. WMP
can generally figure 'em out anyways, but the library will reject 'em if
they don't have the file extension set. Fix the files and then it should
work. :)

You would have to add the correct file extensions. I don't know what they
would be since they're your files. :)

You could probably make some assumptions about the files (if they're video
they're either ASF, MPEG, or AVI; if they're audio, they're WMA, WAV, or
MP3), and work from there to give them correct extensions. The player I
believe will complain if the file extension used is incorrect, so that
should help further isolate the correct extension.
