files open slow

I have two computers with Windows XP Home and Professional connected via
router in a network. Everything seems all right when both of them are in
some work. But if one of them is switched off or hibernated it takes about
30 seconds or even more to open a file on the working computer. There is no
difference on type of the file or if I use a mouse or don't. If anybody has
a clue to the problem the help will be appreciated. Both computers use
firewall ZoneAlarm and antivirus nod32.

In a command prompt, type

net use <enter>

I'll bet you see some disconnected or unavailable shares when the other PC
is off.

net use * /del

will delete the connections, and it should be a lot faster to open files
(using the file | open dialog).

OK, thank you! But will you please explain to stupid me how to see the
results on the screen: they run out immediately.

Start>Run>cmd [enter]

Now you will have the command line prompt "box" and can do as Lanwench said:

The result of the command is: There are no entries in the list.
Any more suggestions as for the problem that was described in my first
communication?

I too get the same result for what sounds like an identical problem I am
having. See post of Nov 2 below "data files slow to load".

Any help out there?
