Files open as inactive

I am using Windows XP Home with SP2 and all current updates.

Recently I noticed that when I open a file from a folder the file will open
as "inactive" (Gray title bar as opposed to a blue title bar) and the file
is under the folder which remains active with a blue title bar. If I open
more files they still go under the folder rather than on top of the folder.

I think there is a simple setting to correct this but I can not fine it.

Your suggestions would be appreciated.

You are probably aware that many file extensions,(e.g. .txt, .doc, .jpg, and
so on) have 'associations' or apps set to open then automatically when the
file is 'opened'. Whatever app you have set to open this particular set of
files (that open inactive,) has some setting to 'blur' the focus on open. If
they are *.htm files, the HTML code of the htm page could do that. You are
pretty much the only one able to determine this info.

Thanks Mark, I messed around with "folder views" and reset the defaults
then put in the features that I wanted. It seems to be working OK now. I
must have messed up something when I was fooling around with the settings.
