Network is W2k sp4. Clients XP SP 0

If a user opens a file on a share then closes it (with or
without editing) and then either they or another user
tries to open the same file it is being returned as read
only.
On computer management on server it reports the file as
still being open for r + w by the first user even if they
do not have the file open the only way this clears is if
the user logs out of their PC and then the "lock" clears
on the server

The only additional point is that there are two separate
domains on the same physical and logical (ip) network.

I have looked at KB article 814112, and I intend to apply
this I would like to know if anyone else has had a
similar experience and whether the fixes / steps outlined
in 814112 resolved the problem.

Many thanks

Yes, this sounds like the SMB signing bug.

( Normally shows up when you apply SP1 to XP clients.
Slightly odd you are seeing it on SP0 clients. )

The article you indicated should fix you up.

As you see, it's a cumulation of various other patches and fixes.
That rather sums up the history of this bug :-)
