Files on C drive are read-only

I understand, and thank you all for your help.
However, there must be some way for me to change this and allow me to save
files directly to the C drive. (And that they should not be read-only.)
Paul Smith; it sounds like you know how. Can you share?
It's very difficult constantly backing up from my XP computer to my Vista
computer and vice versa, if the files aren't saved in exactly the same way.
Thanks again.

It seems to be a mixed bag. Vista claims your root drive as it's
personal property. Go to Explorer, enable large icons, then click on
computer and you'll see the Windows Vista log splattered over the
front of the C drive icon.

If you have UAC on (default state) and you try to copy or move files
or even something as simple and harmless as delete a shortcut from the
desktop, Vista will likely nag worse then your mother-in-law. However
you can reclaim most of your C drive and store files there IF you put
them in folders you create on your C drive, do NOT write directly to
the C drive or Vista is likely to freak.

Hello,

I have an older DOS program that needs to write to the root directory. Did
you ever get a reply from this Paul Smith for the directions?? It DOES seem
like he knows, and I hope he will share.....If we mess up our computers, it's
OUR fault..yes?? lol

Any help you can offer would GREATLY be appreciated !!

PS...Do you know how to FULLY turn off the Vista Firewall??
