Well Rich, try the system Restore and see if that will solve the issue.
If not try to run this command:
Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run, you may need your XP CD handy if
the OS asked you to do so.
If still then tell us what these files are and why you gone mad and delete
or why you are performing a clean up this way!.

hi guys

ive deleted some files by mistake and now i cant download any new software
or windows update.

please advis eon where i can start looking and how or if i can retreive them

thanks
rich

Well Rich, try the system Restore and see if that will solve the issue.
If not try to run this command:
Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run, you may need your XP CD handy if
the OS asked you to do so.
If still then tell us what these files are and why you gone mad and delete
or why you are performing a clean up this way!.
HTH.

Look for them in the REcycle Bin. Recover them.

Try using System Restore to go back to a date before you did the deletions.
