files missing after temp profile disappeared

A few weeks ago, my HP Pavillion rebooted itself
spontaneously and logged me on with a temporary profile,
deleting all my settings but no actual files. I moved
the "old" My Pictures into the "new" My Documents folder
and my bookmarks as well. Then, a few days ago after I
tried running the restore to an earlier point thing (which
didn't work), it logged me on with yet another temp
profile and the My Pictures and My Music folders were
nowhere that I can find (search function doesn't find
them). I ran Windows Update, which eventually got the
computer back to how it had been before the spontaneous
reboot, but the pictures and music folders are still
nowhere to be found. I think it's all still on here
somewhere, or else the available memory would have
increased dramatically - but I can't find them. Does
anyone know where I should look? Thank you -

All profiles are under the documents and settings folder on your system drive unless you are on a network with roaming profiles. If you are, they will be stored on a server. I would have started with a searche of your c:\ documents and settings folder to see if they are there. (There would be multiple folders with your username, user, user.001, or something like that)

All the current usernames are there, but these were
temporary profiles that XP created saying that my previous
profile was corrupt. So they were showing up as "TEMP"
and "TEMP.COMPUTERNAME" - until they disappeared.

Okay.. not sure I understand what you mean. Are the profiles still there? If so do they contain the data you where looking for? If you rightclick on the "My Computer" icon and select the "User Profiles" tab, you should be able to see your existing profiles and copy the contents of one to another. Not sure if this helps but feel free to mail me if I misunderstood you.
