TEMP profile after corruption

I tried to log into Windows XP Pro and was told that the profile was corrupt.
Okay. I've had that happen before. Then the next dialogue box said that it
was logging me into a temporary profile and all changes would be lost when I
logged out. But I didn't really read that and just clicked okay -- thinking
it was the same message again.
So I was logged into the TEMP profile and I copied (stupidly) all my stuff
from the desktop and My Documents to the desktop and My Documents of the TEMP
profile -- again not realizing everything would be lost.
Then, I logged off.
And, as Windows told me, when I logged in again the next day, everything I
had moved to the TEMP profile desktop and My Documents was gone. Painful.
Very, very painful.
So, is there ANY way to get this stuff back? I mean, it wrote to the hard
drive. It must be there somewhere, right....right????

you could look in the event logs, there should be an entry detailing why your
profile has been corrupted. The two links posted should get a new profile
working with old data from the older profile.

Thanks for your help, but I fear I may have not explained the issue properly.
I did copy things from the corrupted profile to a new profile. My issue is
that I copied all that stuff to the TEMP profile created by Windows when I
tied to log into the corrupted profile.
But Windows says that things in that TEMP profile are lost when you log off.
Is this true? It has to be somewhere. It wrote things to the hard drive....
