Files locked... help!

I am unable to edit any Word or XLS files. The files are 'locked' Could I
have accidently triggered a keyboard shortcut that could have caused this? I
can't even start a new Word file!

The first thing to try is to restart your computer, or copy the file
to a different folder on your system. The reasoning for this is simple:
Sometimes Excel or Word can get confused and think that a file is
"locked" by another user, when in fact it is not. Restarting or copying
the file can help clear the confusion.
