Hi there,
I've a problem decrypting my files. Here's the details:
- I encrypted folders and files on my laptop's hard drive
using the (right mouse clisk--> properties-->general tab--
advanced-->encrypt check box)
- I use my laptop to login to the company domain.
- I took my hard disk and put it on another machine "as my
laptop has some hardware problems" as a slave disk.
- I login with my same domain user id. I failed to copy
the data from old drive to another drive getting a message
of the file is being in use or something like that.
- I tried to remove the encryption but I always got an
error message saying that the specified file couldn't be
decrypted.
I saw a document stating that I should have access to the
system volume folder, I made sure I have access to it.

I appreciate if anybody can help me with that.

Thanks in advance

Try to decrypt the files with the recovery agent, by
default the administrator is the one.

You are having a problem because your EFS private key used for decryption is stored
in your user profile on the computer where the files were encrypted unless you have
roaming profile. If you do not have a roaming profile you need to try to export your
EFS certificate/private key to a .pfx file and then import it into the other computer
you are logged onto. If that is not possible your other option is to check with the
domain admin to see if he can use the domain recovery agent to decrypt your files or
possibly restore your installation from a backup assuming it includes your profile
after a time that your files were encrypted. See the link below for more info on
FS. --- Steve

The recovery agent will have to import the recovery agent certificate/private key
onto the computer where the files are located via a .pfx file - just logging onto the
computer as the recovery agent is not good enough. You can use efsinfo to see who is
the recovery agent and use the /c switch to see thumbprint info to match up the
correct certificates. The links below may help. --- Steve
