files and settings transfers

I recently starting running XP and set up the home network. Everything works
fine except the printer from second computer but that is another issue. When
I transfer files and settings from old computer everything comes over but
the
programs won't run. Says they need to be installed from original location. I
cannot figure this out and wondered if anyone had any ideas. Thanks
 
You can't transfer programs. You have to actually install them from the
original CD, floppy or saved download file.
